Mixed/Graphics made by:

Warnings: Spoilers for Buffy Seasons 5 through 7
Notes: This basically chronicles Spike and Buffy's relationship in the later seasons of Buffy. Inspired by the various fanmixes made for seasonalspuffy, which I don't belong to. xDD I figured I'd try my hand at a fanmix for these two.

TRACKS:
1) "Bruises" - Chairlift
I tried to do handstands for you,
But every time I fell for you.
I'm permanently black and blue,
permanently blue for you
For me, this describes Spike's trying to impress Buffy throughout Season 5. Despite his being soulless, he's convinced he's in love with her and is trying to get her to notice him. ;)
2) "Girl You Blow My Mind" - The Friday Night Boys
Sleep tight, girl, we're not fine tonight
You got me running around in circles
I thought you wouldn't go
Now I can't deny that
Girl, you blow my mind
Yeah, again, Spike toward Buffy when he's in full I-love-you-and-stalk-you mode in Season 5.
3) "Undisclosed Desires" - Muse
I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty is not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart
More Spike to Buffy, basically.
4) "She Will Be Loved" - Maroon 5
I don't mind spending everyday
out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile,
ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
Think the end of "Fool for Love". Spike sets out to kill Buffy but just ends up sitting on the steps with her, trying to comfort her. This can also be interpreted as a song that describes Spike wanting to be there for Buffy after she's raised from the dead by Willow at the start of Season 6.
5) "Comatose" - Skillet
I never wake up without an overdose of you.
I don't wanna live, I don't wanna breathe
'less I feel you next to me.
You take the pain I feel
(Wakin' up to you never felt so real)
The start of Season 6, as Buffy is trying to adjust to being ripped out of heaven, finds Buffy and Spike's relationship taking a new direction. Buffy wants to feel anything but nothingness, and the physical relationship she's established with Spike helps her to achieve this.
6) "MakeDamnSure" - Taking Back Sunday
A long night spent with your most obvious weaknesses
You start shaking at the thought
You are everything I want
'Cause you are everything I'm not
I think this is a perfect song to describe Spike and Buffy's relationship in Season 6. Their relationship is mainly physical; Buffy is disgusted with herself for carrying on a relationship with Spike who is soulless AND a vampire. Spike, though, feels that this physical relationship shows Buffy that he loves her, in his own twisted way.
7) "This Love" - Maroon 5
She kept playin' love like it was just a game
Pretending to feel the same,
Then turn around an leave again
This love has taken its toll on me
In S6, Spike's gotta keep Buffy satisfied, or she'll walk away. And he doesn't want that. She's got him wrapped around her finger, although he'd hate to admit it. Buffy is essentially using Spike, and he's letting her.
8) "Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking her Clothes Off" - Panic! at the Disco
Girl, I was it, look past the sweat, a better love deserving of
Exchanging body heat in the passenger seat
No, no, no, you know it will always just be me
*cough* More Spuffy...erm...sex. Buffy tries to deny that she desires Spike, but he's always determined to prove her wrong.
9) "Break Your Little Heart" - All Time Low
Don't be so sentimental, no
This is love is accidental, so
Give it up, This was never meant to be
More than a memory for you...
I'm gonna break your little heart in two.
Another Season 6 song. Spike and Buffy both have doubts about their twisted dynamic they've been carrying out all this time. And let's face it: a lot of their relationship is based on hurting each other.
10) "I Don't Love You" - My Chemical Romance
Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading,
So sick and tired of all the needless beating...
After all the blood that you still owe,
Another dollar's just another blow...
When you go, would you even turn to say,
"I don't love you like I did yesterday."
Buffy "breaks up" with Spike.
11) "All Hail the Heartbreaker" - The Spill Canvas
I had the notion that you'd make me change my ways
Ahd the bad habits would be gone in a matter of days
I had the feeling that you'd open up my eyes
To a whole new world that had since been in disguise
But that day will most likely never come for me
And it's just my luck to end up getting stuck
To everything you are
Spike's feelings toward Buffy after they end their fling.
12) "All Over You" - The Spill Canvas
I gotta feel you in my bones again,
I'm all over you; I'm not over you
I wanna taste you one more time again
I'm all over you, I'm not over you...
Why can't you just love me back?
Again, Spike's feelings. He lashes out, desperate for Buffy to love him back. He hurts her in a way he didn't think he could let himself. He leaves Sunnydale.
13) "Everywhere" - Michelle Branch
'Cause you're everywhere to me
When I close my eyes, it's you I see
You're everything I know that makes me believe
I'm not alone, I'm not alone
Although Spike is gone at the end of Season 6, I imagine this is how Buffy still felt about him: that they hurt each other countless times, that they were so wrong for each other, but he made her feel alive and sometimes, she was more connected to him than anyone else.
14) "Breathe" - Paramore
I climb, I slip, I fall, reaching for your hands
But I lay here all alone, sweating all your blood.
If I could find out how to make you listen, now,
Because I'm starving for you here with my undying love.
At the beginning of Season 7, Buffy discovers Spike in the basement of the rebuilt high school. He's gone crazy, by the looks of it, and because of their history, Buffy can't just walk away from him. And he can't do the same to her, either.
15) "Run To You" - The Rocket Summer
Run to you, I will run, I will run
I will move right on through all these
things that I have done
And you'll take me back; I don't know why
I wanna say I'll never do it again, but I can't.
But I will try.
This song reminds me of Spike's POV concerning his journey with Buffy up to Season 7. They've known each other for years and their feelings toward each other have changed drastically. In Season 7, Buffy finds out Spike went to Africa to get a soul for her. The First persuades Spike to start killing again, and Buffy is the one to take him in when everyone else protests to it.
16) "The Reason" - Hoobastank
I just want you to know,
I found a reason for me to
change who I used to be,
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you
This one's quite obvious. Buffy is Spike's reason for changing to be a better person.
17) "Goodnight Sweet Girl" - Ghost of the Robot
So much promise in your eyes,
seems that I can only see.
It always makes me wonder
if you save it all for me.
Maybe you do, maybe you don't.
(This song is sung by James Marsters, who did happen to play Spike xD). This song reminds me of Spike and Buffy's relationship in Season 7. It's a lot more intimate on the emotional level than the physical; Buffy trusts Spike and vice versa. However, Buffy knows that she doesn't love Spike in the way he loves her, and it's something that lingers in his mind.
18) "The Kill" - 30 Seconds to Mars
What if I fell to the floor,
couldn't take this anymore?
What would you do?...
You're killing me killing me
All I wanted was you
Yet another look at the complicated Spike/Buffy dynamic. Not assigned to a specific season; the song says "I am finished with you"---Buffy and Spike have been "finished" with each other many times, but always wind up back to each other in some form or another. Spike pretty much knows Buffy will never want him.
19) "Right Here" - Staind
I know I've been mistaken,
But just give me a break and see the
changes that I've made
I've got some imperfections
But how can you collect them all and
throw them in my face?
The final episode of the series, "Chosen". Buffy's first love, Angel, makes an appearance and Spike sees them kiss each other in greeting.
20) "Wherever You Will Go" - The Calling
I know now, just quite how
My life and love might still go on
In your heart and your mind
I'll stay with you for all of time
This song specifically reminds me of the the last scene of "Chosen" between Spike and Buffy. They're holding hands, and their hands ignite. Spike knows that he can't save the world and live through it at the same time, as he's wearing the amulet that will destroy the Hellmouth. Buffy tells Spike she loves him, and he replies merely with, "No, you don't. But thanks for saying it." This song exemplifies the fact that Spike will live on in the back of Buffy's mind and in her heart.
